The Stone and The Green World

I began this necklace on Sunday and just didn't like what I had. It looked very "blah." I put it aside and came back to it today, taking it apart completely. I dug through all of my beads and pulled colors that would make it look not so "blah."

I looped the different beads together one at a time to make the body of the necklace, and added simple chain for the piece that hangs on the back of the neck (one of my favorite looks)

I wish you could feel this focal piece. I don't even know how to describe it, other than smooth and soft! Ok, so maybe I described it!

On Thursday I'm going bead shopping with my sister Kinsey and her friend Andrea (the wedding I'm doing the jewelry for) We're going to pick out colors and beads! I'm so excited to get going on all of this and help Andrea with her big day! More posts to come...

Come back on Friday, July 2nd for another giveaway!

Dark Tear

Believe it or not, the focal piece was once an earring! Who would wear such a large piece on her ear?
I found this, and it's pair at a second-hand store a few weeks back thinking that it would look very cute as a focal piece to a necklace. I snipped the earring hook off, attached a jump ring and attached it to a leather cord. I then added four simple black beads to the cord with some bits of silver on each side.
Note: This Friday is my July giveaway! Make sure you come back and follow for a chance to win 2 necklaces!
(More to come later)

Valley of Clay

I spent my Wednesday night searching for the right beads. It's been awhile since I just went bead shopping not looking for anything in particular. I just took my time looking until something caught my eye. I first went to Sea of Beads in Lakeville and grabbed some seed beads for the necklaces I'll be making for Andrea's wedding. I then drove up Cedar Ave to the Mall of America and made my way to Beadniks. The store was empty, and I took my time touching the beads and just enjoying my time shopping! This is where I found the pieces for this necklace.

I picked up the pendant which is a pink and brownish clay bead, and some slightly smaller matching clay beads. I made the chain out of goldish/brownish seed beads and added some pink and gold lucite beads to finish it off.

I started the necklace on Thursday night while watching Season 2 of The Big Bang Theory with Justin and finished it on Friday during a really bad thunderstorm! (That's me modeling it) Bazinga!

All I Ever Wanted

This necklace was made for a friend of my sister Kyrstin, Liz.
I guess Liz is my friend too as I've known her the majority of my life. Liz would come over to our house for birthday parties and sleep overs, and me being the younger sister, would tag along with the older girls.
Liz asked me to make a necklace that she can wear this fall when her and her husband go through IVF. Liz said, "I want something that represents hope, love, inspiration, and faith."
After some brainstorming, and some internet searching, I learned that rose quartz are the beads of love and fertility. They are said to help promote pregnancy and to protect the mother and unborn fetus from miscarriage. I also learned that turtles are a symbol of both protection and fertility.
(I made sure to ask Liz if she wanted a turtle or not - I'm glad she did, it completes the look)

Liz is blogging through her journey on trying to conceive a baby - http://www.notsofertilemertile.blogspot.com/

I hope this necklace brings Liz and Jeremy lots of happiness.

This post is for 'lush friday show and tell' hosted by Andrea . It's something new I'm trying out, and thought Liz's necklace would be a great first show and tell, as I have been working on it all week!

The Beast and the Dragon, Adored

It's hard to tell in this photo, but the beads are red clay beads with neutral blotches from Goodybeads.com It's just connected with wooden beads that are neutral/shades of yellow, intermixed with different types of chain.
Are you wondering about the name of this necklace?
I've been listening to some new music lately, thanks to Pandora and Justin (he gets tired of Lady Gaga and other "Top 40" so we listen to The Current out of Minneapolis) and Spoon has appeared many times during my listening. Not only am I starting to enjoy this type of music, I'm getting some great names for my necklaces!

Ahhh! I wish I had a better camera! For the past few months of dealing with a camera that takes bad pictures and some of them look pink, I've realized the possible reason. I was the yearbook advisor for the students at my school, and let the students use my camera, as the school had/has very little money to purchase their own. I bet one of those amazing students on my yearbook staff accidentally did something to it! Oh well... the yearbook looks AMAZING! :-)

Winner of American Saturday Night - 4th of July Necklace
Christine says, "I follow you and my favorite thing about the 4th is the fireworks especially now that my toddler loves them too. I've never seen him sit still so long! "
Congratulations Christine! Thanks to everyone who has been following and leaving great comments about my necklaces.
I'm new to this, and figuring out what works and doesn't work with necklaces is a process...
Have a great rest of the weekend!

New Torch

I made this necklace as a friend of mine said she prefers the necklaces that are simplier. I took that as less fun and less beads and pendants. Not really! I understand what she meant, and figured it's time to make something for the simplier necklace wearers! There are plenty out there!

All I did for this necklaces was loop jump rings together so it dangled down from a 18in chain, and attached "fall color" beads in a plain loop onto each of the jump rings. They overlap and hang at different levels.

I wore the necklace last night as Justin and I met some friends for supper, that's right, I say supper instead of dinner! We went out for Thai food at Chiang Mai Thai in Calhoun Square in Minneapolis.

Make sure you check out my 4th of July Giveaway - American Saturday Night. Entries are accepted until 11:59 Minnesota time! (CST)

Where I "Hide" My Necklaces!

It came to a point in my life where I didn't have a good spot to put all of my necklaces and earrings. For Christmas, Santa (my mom and dad still provide our Santa gifts) got me a beautiful jewelery armoire. It was a great gift and couldn't wait to bring it back to Burnsville and load it up!
Here it is with the side doors open showing the hanging space I have.
Otherwise, the drawers are full!

I decided it's time to let some of my necklaces hang, as they are intended, and made a space for them on the bedroom wall. I took four cork board pieces, covered them with material, using a stapler to secure the material to the board on the back, and attached red and black ribbon to enhance the look. I use tacks to hang my necklaces, and voila! It's done!

If you choose to do this, I recommend nailing these to the wall - it gets quite heavy with all the necklaces, and could fall down - it will fall down!

This too is getting a little crowded - any ideas on what to do now?

Lucky

I didn't make this necklace - if I remember correctly I bought it at Maurices in 2008. I was out shopping in Maple Grove (Minnesota) with my two friends from college, Jenny and Carly.
Just 2 weeks earlier I had accepted a job teaching 10th grade English, then the next day got into a car accident and totaled my car - only a few cuts and bruises on my arms and legs. I at the time felt really lucky - and when I finally got a new car (almost 3 weeks without one) I hung this from the rear-view mirror.
I look at it daily and just think I'm pretty lucky for EVERYTHING I have.
As driving home today, and sitting in traffic like always, I thought I should make a necklace that resembles this to wear on days that I have no specific necklace to wear. That's when I pulled out my BlackBerry and took the photo to share with all of you.
P.S. I met Justin about the same time as well, and we're going on 2 years!

Something To Belive In

After being gone all weekend to Milwaukee at a Brewers/Rangers game, it was nice to come home and make a necklace.

I bought this cross for my Pastor Margaret right after she gave me quite a few beads to use for making necklaces.

While talking to her a month ago at a baby shower held at my church, she had told me that she picks turquoise beads when she sees them - and I saw this cross and knew I should get that for her as a "thank you" for the beads she had given me.

I didn't want to do an extreme amount of turquoise, as I felt it might be a little too much, so I went with frosted stones, brownish/clear colored beads, and turquoise stones as an accent. Like my very detailed description? :-)

I'd make my students re-write this paragraph using more "showing" words instead of "telling" words. Paint the picture for the reader, I'd tell them. I would then get blank stares, and the occasional response of, "This is English, not Art." I'll work on describing my necklaces better in later posts...

Different Kind of Fine

Another sale!

This necklace was requested as a gift for someone, and referenced the necklace I made for my sister Kyrstin (A Mirror of What You Feel Inside) as wanting something similar to that.

I took wide-hole chain and laced some black chain through it, and attached some black seed beads to that chain to add some dimension.

My favorite part is the beads hanging from the open circle pendant - as it looked to plain without them.

GREAT NEWS!
I got asked to make 8 necklaces for a wedding on August 13th! I'm so excited, I'm already planning them out. Good thing it's summer vacation and I have plenty of time on my hands!

Midnight Wish

My younger sister Kinsey, http://idontwhy.blogspot.com/ asked if I could make a necklace with a wishbone. She just graduated from college, and is job hunting, as she is a writer. I think a wishbone is perfect for her to wear - I should wear one too...
Kinsey also asked if I could put a stone with the wishbone. Her birthday is in September, and I got the closest stone I could to a saphire. (Someone else can buy her a real saphire) I then wrapped it with wire and made a loop so it hangs behind the wishbone.
It's time I did something a little more simple, as an everyday necklace. Everyone needs one of those right? Come back and see the more simplier necklaces I'll be making in the future. I actually got asked to make a necklace for Kinsey's BFF Andrea to wear when she gets married this summer. I'm really excited for that opportunity. More to come later.
Here are the three Bodenburg girls at a wedding. Kyrstin (the oldest) is on the left, http://www.seewhatwedidtoday.blogspot.com/, I'm in the middle, and Kinsey is on the right. I have two older brothers, Boyd and Blake - but no need to picture them now!

Stark Silver Ring

Made for my sister-in-law Carrie, I went with colors I loved. She didn't have anything specific in mind, so I got free range.

It has different shades of turquoise looped together by jump rings, and connected by lengths of chain. I glued the turquoise pendant to the silver ring using Aleene's Jewel-It. If you've been following, I did the same with Laura's Orange County Girl.

I don't see Carrie much anymore as I live in Minnesota, and her and my brother are no longer married. I'm lucky enough to see her when I visit my parents, as my mom watches my nephew Billy and niece Caitlyn after school.

Little Bitty Pretty One

I began thinking about creating this necklace a few months ago after seeing something similar in Bead Style Magazine May 2010. I didn't begin it until over Memorial Day Weekend at my grandma's house. My grandma is a quilter and has bins and bins of material. I grabbed this mustard color piece and asked my mom to sew a seam for me. (both my mom and younger sister can sew) I then brought it home and it sat until last night.

The best thing about this necklace is that everything was free. Everything but the wire, jump rings, and clasps, something Justin calls "sunk cost."

The broach I received from my childhood neighbor; she was going through her mother-in-law's jewelry and gave it all to me to take apart and use. Such a fun idea. So if you have old stuff you don't want anymore, I'll take it.

I received the beads, used as connectors to the chain from my pastor back home at my parent's. She found out that I began making jewelry and sent a bunch of beads with my mom for me to use. (I still need to make her a necklace as a thank you)

Obviously this isn't a wear everyday necklace, but there is something about it that I am intrigued by and am going to wear it to work tomorrow. Here's hoping I have something in my closet that will go with it...

Blue Leaf Clover

I was really excited to make this necklace ever since I bought the materials a few weeks ago. It has been raining all day, and I got home and decided to finally get to it. As soon as I finished, the rain stopped - hence the picture outside on the deck. (Plus it actually shows all the details)
The pendant has little clovers that are blue - and luckily enough I found a song that has it in the title!
